Week 6 - Class: Color

From the get-go we did our little presentation of design examples. This time it was to bring in something that has the design concept of variety.

Afterwards, we all hung up our "Two Letter" finals.

I thought mine turned out really well but I must say some of them were really fucking good.

Up next is our lecture on Color.

It started off with stuff we all knew.

Color is the light that bounces off an object.

If you combine RGB, they add up to make white.

However cyan, magenta, and yellow subtract from each other leaving black.

I found these terms fascinating.

You can increase the tones, the tint, or the shade.

Here's a closer look at some images.

You can see that if you look up really close the colors are just a bunch of dots.

This is really what happens when a printer prints something.

In-class lab

Hue - Lightness/Darkness
Value - The actual color
Saturation - How much of that color is present.

Today in class we cut out strips of colors from magazines.

The grayscale thing that we did was to match the color with the right Value, the hue and saturation are removed.

Then we took a photo of it with the "mono" setting. Let's see how I did!

Not bad eh?

Next we had a quick lab to illustrate these terms by using contrast.

And then I got my first assignment back. I got a 90% lol.

It's not like this class is really graded anyways.

Week 5 - Reading: These readings suck

The assigned reading to so damn boring and we don't even discuss them in class so I'm no longer going to be reading them.

They're boring ass textbook materials I had to read back in grade school.

About 3 pages into the chapter, I just said "Fuck this shit".

So no more summaries of readings.

I'm sure those summaries weren't that great to read anyways haha.

Week 5 - Final: Two Letters

As usual, this assignment took way longer than anticipated.

In order to do this assignment I had to go back to the art store and pick up some fresh blades and black paper.

So the main part about this assignment was that the dimensions had to be perfect.

So I kind of cheated and messed around on the computer to get the dimensions right before cutting.

After I got that, I started to make that into a paper reality.

Once I got all the outlines done, I marked which sections were to be cut and then cut them out.

I took the white cut out and put it on top of a whole black sheet.

And the final product!!!

I just have to put that on a big bristol piece of paper and all done!!!

Week 5 - Observation: Variety

This week we are to bring in a piece of work that uses variety.

I went on to Pinterest and typed in variety and I was so pleased to find this piece!

I remember seeing this long time ago and I just loved how much variety is in it.

The food pieces are still very uniform in the way that they are cut which allows the variety to shine through even more.

Week 5 - Class: Texture

I was super sleepy in class today so I kind of was lost as to what we were doing.

Anyways we started off with the designs that we brought in.

We were to bring designs that embodied the concept of: economy.

Then she had a little lecture which I honestly got so bored with that I started doodling in my book. Actually I wasn't "doodling" but I was working on my studies for my "Two letter" project.

I really like that last one.

Then we had a little fun activity where we would mess around with a bunch of different paints and ink stuff to mess around with texture.

I honestly was so bored and didn't find this to be useful at all.

Plus it didn't help that I was so sleepy.

But I still took a decent amount of pictures.

My group got done first so I was in the first group to get feedback on our "Two letter" designs.

Jenny also really like the one that I liked.

So I guess this one is the one that's going to be my final!

Week 4 - Final Draft: One word

Oh man I was having a wonderful day at the beach. But this assignment has been on my Todo list for way too long to avoid it tonight.

Honestly if I wasn't writing this blog, I probably wouldn't have gone through the effort of doing this assignment. Now that I'm done I'm glad that I did though.

Here are all my supplies that I used to start my creation.

First I cut out all the pieces from the drawing.

Then I used it to trace it onto the desired papers.

FYI: The paper is different colors on both sides. This is actually blue on the other side.

Then I put it on a yellow ish paper.

But it looks so fucking ugly. I really should've done a different color.

But then by fate, it turns out that I accidentally made some cuts onto this paper. I couldn't use this for my portfolio.

So I cut it out and put it on white paper.

So much better.

I just gotta put that on a large black piece of paper and we're good to go.

I worked so hard that I broke the tip of my knife. I think I need to get new blades.

That's all folks!
